三得利的創辦人鳥井信治郎於1899年創立「鳥井商店」(三得利的前身)，並推出「赤玉」葡萄酒(現稱「赤玉紅酒」)，在赤玉紅酒大受歡迎後，開始實踐在日本生產威士忌的理想，於1923年在京都近郊山崎地區著手創建日本第一座蒸餾廠--「山崎蒸餾廠」。但由於威士忌的熟成需多年光陰，投注資金及精力年年消失在一樽樽橡木桶中，而引起眾人反對，但鳥井信治郎仍堅韌的堅守著夢想，等待橡木桶中的原酒成為美釀，終於1929年企盼已久的日本國產第一號威士忌「白札」誕生。「白札」在期待下產出，當時卻未如預期得到很好的反應，因當時威士忌尚未普及，其次，師法蘇格蘭而有濃重的泥炭煙燻味，使喜歡配餐飲酒的日本人卻步。，但是鳥井信治郎並不氣餒，反而更努力向困難挑戰，除致力於「符合東方人口味」的威士忌開發外，並以樂觀積極的態度，將威士忌推廣到生活之中。終於，1937年「角瓶」推出，大受歡迎。

此套裝由2007年開始至2018期間發行, 三得利集團出品Old生肖招紙系列, 每年於12月開始發售.
