Description
Slogan:
Art de vivre

Tasting Note:
"The soft, sexy 2009 exhibits a dense plum/purple color along with a big, sweet bouquet of raspberries, black cherries, black currants, smoke and forest floor. Opulent and round with an attractive viscosity as well as outstanding purity, depth and length, it should drink well for two decades. While not one of the longest lived wines of the vintage, it is among the most precocious, flattering and charming at present. Prieure-Lichine’s beautiful, seductive 2009 is one of the finest efforts yet made at this property that was rejuvenated under the late Alexis Lichine. Quality began improving dramatically about fifteen years ago and with the hiring of wine consultant Stephane Derenoncourt things have improved even further. "
- Robert Parker 93 points

Overview:
10th century, Prieuré’s origins: The Priory of Cantenac was founded during the Roman era by the monks of the Abbey of Vertheuil. Its local, parish wines enjoyed a fine reputation from the very beginning. With the support of Bordeaux’s Pope Clément V in the 13th century, church vineyards flourished. The first recorded mention of the Prieuré growth dates from 1444. Privatized in the French Revolution, the Château Prieuré of Cantenac has been owned by many families before being bought in 1951 by Alexis Lichine, Russian origin, great man of wine and words, author of the famous Encyclopedia of Wines and Alcohols. Alexis Lichine, the Pope of Wine, died at Prieuré on June 1st 1989. In 1999, this 70-hectare vineyard became property of the Ballande family. Advised by Stéphane Derenoncourt, the estate continues its history by taking a new impulse, resolutely turned towards the future. In 2019, the estate won a Best of d’Or Wine Tourism award. This was a proud achievement for the whole team, who warmly welcome to the estate visitors from all over the world. Château Prieuré-Lichine has meanwhile undertaken new environmental commitments, joining the High Environmental Value system (HVE), for which it has gained HVE certification Level 3.
